Trump’s campaign team warns: The press gives Kamala Harris a free pass

The press is letting Vice President Kamala Harris down and misleading Americans on economic issues, claims Trump’s co-campaign manager Chris LaCivita.

“The press has given her free rein. I mean, and everyone knows she hasn’t answered any questions in a couple of weeks. She hasn’t even had to answer any questions for weeks. So they’ve given her a sort of honeymoon,” LaCivita said on Wednesday on the “Brian Kilmeade Show.”

Since she was presumably named the Democratic presidential nominee, Harris has not held a formal press conference or interview for 24 days, as of Wednesday. She spoke briefly with reporters during brief meetings last week, but otherwise has confined herself almost entirely to rehearsed remarks. Some mainstream pundits have dismissed the notion that Harris needs to answer questions from reporters.

“They’re going to go to the Democratic convention now and they’re going to try to put on a show there,” LaCivita said, noting that the economy is “perhaps the biggest contrast between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris.”

“Since Harris has been vice president, gas prices have gone up 51%, electricity has gone up 32%, fuel and oil have gone up 50%, airfare has gone up 23%, hotels have gone up 51%, food and grocery stores have gone up over 21%… So prices have exploded. And while Harris’ campaign is going on and the mainstream media is manipulating the American people and saying, ‘Oh, it’s OK, everything is OK,'” LaCivita said.

“The American people are hurting and they know it, and they are smarter than the Democrats give them credit for,” he added. “They won’t be fooled.”

While Harris has largely avoided the press, Trump recently held a lengthy press conference, spoke for over two hours with fellow backer and X owner Elon Musk on “Space Monday” and announced another press conference for Thursday. However, Trump has criticized the media for only reporting on technical aspects of the X event, and LaCivita feels the Mar-a-Lago press conference did not receive quality coverage.

“When the president held his press conference at Mar-a-Lago a little over a week ago and literally stood in front of the entire press for an hour and answered every question imaginable, none of the answers to the vast majority of those questions were ever discussed,” he said.

“He talked about inflation. He talked about where we are on the world stage. So, I mean, the focus of the campaign has always been to put Americans in a better position to succeed,” LaCivita added. “And that will continue to be the case.”
