Before the holidays, numerous drivers announced their favorites for this year’s NCS title.
Kyle Larson went into the break with a big win, taking the checkered flag at the Brickyard 400 in Indianapolis. It’s the 2021 champion’s fourth series-leading victory and put him back at the top of the driver standings. Unlike past seasons, there has been less parity in terms of wins, with only 12 different drivers reaching victory lane so far in 2024.
That leaves just four spots open, with just four races left in the regular season. Heading into Sunday’s race, soon-to-be-retired Martin Truex Jr. has the most points of any winless driver this season and currently sits seventh in the points standings. Other drivers looking to fight for a top-16 spot include Ty Gibbs and Ross Chastain, as well as Chris Buescher, who secured his ticket to the playoffs with a win at Richmond last year.
Denny Hamlin won the first race of the season at Richmond, which took place in late March. Larson, Truex, Alex Bowman and Rochester Hills native Brad Keselowski are all former short-track winners who would like to score another victory on Sunday.
