Oak Ridge Civic Music’s 80th season opens with a multisensory concert

The Oak Ridge Civic Music Association will open its 80th season with a unique “musical kaleidoscope” on Aug. 24 at 7 p.m. at the Oak Ridge High School Performing Arts Center, the ORCMA announced in a press release.

Masterpieces by Bach, Shaw, Enesco, Higdon and Haydn would explore the brilliance of both historical and contemporary compositions, with each piece accompanied by a stunning visual performance, the press release said.

An art exhibition will open at 6pm, and there will be a pre-concert lecture at 6:30pm. Kaleidoscopes by local artists will be on display in the lobby, offering a glimpse into the world of kaleidoscopic imagery. There will also be live demonstrations of how musical kaleidoscopes are made.

In the discussion before the concert, the evening’s program will be discussed in more detail and insights into the composers and pieces presented will be given in order to prepare the guests for the multisensory experience that awaits them, the press release said.

A special highlight of the evening is a flute solo by Maria Castillo. The conductor is Régulo Stabilito.
