According to the state government, all 62 bodies were recovered from the crash site of the deadly plane outside São Paulo on Friday afternoon.
According to the government of São Paulo, the bodies of 34 men and 28 women have been recovered. So far, only two of them – the pilot and the co-pilot – have been identified.
The passenger plane crashed off São Paulo on Friday afternoon, killing all passengers after plunging 5,100 meters into the depths in just one minute. The cause is still unclear. The flight took off from Cascavel in the Brazilian state of Paraná and was on its way to Guarulhos in the state of São Paulo.
Dramatic footage circulating on social media showed the plane crashing and its destroyed fuselage ablaze on the ground.
Sao Paulo Fire Department spokesman Maycon Cristo told CNN that officials are working row by row of planes to recover and identify the bodies, which are in a difficult-to-identify condition.
To help identify the bodies, families have been asked to share medical records of the victims “such as radiological, medical and/or dental examinations,” according to a statement from the São Paulo state government.
More details are emerging about who was on board. Among the dead are a three-year-old girl and her father, according to the public prosecutor’s office of Santa Catarina, where the man worked.
The regional airline Voepass, which operated the flight, stated that all passengers had Brazilian documents, while four victims had dual nationality: three Venezuelans and one Portuguese.
The three Venezuelans were a woman, her mother and her four-year-old son, who were traveling with their dog.
The state of São Paulo has declared three days of national mourning in memory of the victims who were on a flight from Cascavel in the Brazilian state of Paraná to Guarulhos in the state of São Paulo when the signal was lost.
According to Brazilian partner broadcaster CNN Brasil, preparations for a wake are set to begin on Monday in Cascavel, where the plane took off.
