Spanish authorities investigate Katy Perry music video

BALEARIC ISLANDS, Spain – Katy Perry’s latest music video “Lifetimes” is under investigation for unauthorized filming in a protected area of Spain.

According to Billboard, the investigation is about whether Katy Perry’s music video had an impact on the environment.

In a statement, the region’s environmental agency said that although the use of the site did not constitute an environmental crime, the production company responsible for the video had not applied for a filming permit at the location.

The video was shot partly in protected dunes in the Ses Salines Natural Park. Spanish news magazine Mallorca Daily Bulletin reported that the area was cordoned off and access was prohibited.

The video shows Perry partying and dancing in various locations.

El Pais, another Spanish news outlet, reported that the dunes where Perry was filmed are among the most ecologically valuable areas in the Spanish Balearic Islands.

Perry makes a tough comeback

“Lifetimes” is the second song from Perry’s upcoming album “143”. The release is scheduled for September 20th. Perry’s last album, titled “Smile”, was released in 2020.

The single follows the release of “Woman’s World” on July 11th. It was heavily criticized.

According to Forbes, Perry was called a “hypocrite” for working with producer Dr. Luke on the synth-heavy track.

Luke has been sued by Kesha for sexual harassment. However, he continues to deny the allegations.

NPR reported that Kesha and Dr. Luke settled the lawsuit in June 2023.

Additionally, Perry was criticized for the revealing outfits in the video. In a July 13 Instagram video, Perry said the video was meant to be sarcastic.

Since the video was shared two days after the single’s release, she seems to have expected the criticism. The video appeared to have been recorded during the production of the video.
