A mother of three children was shot dead at home over the weekend.

Kaitlynn Lee, 25, was filming a TikTok video with a friend at her home in New Albany, Indiana, when she heard a knock on the window.

According to her friend, who was with her at the time, Lee then came to the window and asked: “What are you doing here?”

Two or three shots were then fired and Lee, a mother of three, suffered fatal gunshot wounds to the head.

The person on the other side of the window has since been identified as Lee’s ex-partner Joshua Thompson, with whom she has a child.

Thompson has now been charged with the murder of the 25-year-old and will be held without bail until his trial in March 2025.

He is also charged with invasion of privacy, criminal recklessness and illegal carrying of a handgun.

Local media reported that there is an active no-contact agreement between Thompson and Lee.

Police reviewed TikTok video recorded at the time of the ordeal. They say Lee was seen “laughing, dancing and lip-syncing along to a song” with her boyfriend in the moments before her untimely death.

Lee is said to have had a “toxic relationship” with her ex, who is accused of her murder, and Thompson has reportedly made death threats against her before.

Following Saturday’s sad events, Floyd County District Attorney Chris Lane said, according to Mail Online: “We take allegations of domestic violence seriously. And we take them seriously in this case.”

“Unfortunately, such allegations and circumstances are not uncommon. Relationships can have tragic consequences and, according to the allegations, this is unfortunately the case.”

Lee’s family has set up a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for the mother of three’s funeral. The memorial service is set to take place tomorrow (August 15) and at the time of writing, over $8,100 of the $10,000 goal has already been raised.

“As many of you already know, my cousin Kaitlynn Lee was shot and killed on Saturday, August 10th,” fundraiser organizer Jannette Roberts wrote on the page.

“I am starting this account because of this horrific incident to raise money for a proper funeral/burial. Any extra money will go towards covering her children’s expenses during this time. SHE DESERVED THIS, the very least. She did not deserve what happened to her. Those babies did NOT deserve to have to go through this.

“I will never understand how or why someone could do such an inhumane thing. Because of someone’s selfish actions, her three beautiful babies will now have to grow up without a mother.”

In an update, Roberts asked people to send last-minute donations directly to Newcomer Funeral Home ahead of tomorrow’s memorial service.
