Florida Polytechnic University has appointed Bryan Brooks as vice president for student affairs, enrollment management and strategic communications, a newly created position within the university cabinet.
Brooks, 45, previously served as assistant vice president for communications and community engagement at Northwest Florida State College in Niceville. Florida Poly President Devin Stephenson, appointed in May, also hailed from Northwest Florida.
“Florida Polytechnic University is on the threshold of what is possible,” Brooks said in a press release. “This is an environment where collaboration fosters creativity and drives our progress to 3,000 students in the next few years while maintaining the highest quality of education. Who wouldn’t want to be a part of that?”
The Lakeland school, which opened in 2014, will have around 1,600 students in the fall, the press release said.
Brooks holds a Master of Divinity from Nelson University in Texas and a Master of Business Administration from Washington State University. He is currently pursuing a doctorate in executive leadership in higher education at the University of Miami.
Brooks worked as a landscape gardener at Nelson University before taking on other positions in higher education, the release said. After managing a landscape gardening team, he worked in information technology, admissions and marketing.
He taught business courses at the university level and oversaw the admissions, marketing, communications and athletic departments, the press release said.
At Northwest Florida State College, Brooks led initiatives that resulted in increased enrollment for eight consecutive semesters, the release said. He also oversaw and directed the college’s Mattie Kelly Arts Center.
Brooks and his wife Susan will move from Destin to Lakeland with their five children.
