“A Latte Friends” and its superstars will soon open

It is said that superstars can be seen in Hollywood on the big screen or on the field during a big game at Madison Square Garden.

But what if you knew that D’Iberville also has superstars – 19 in total?

These superstars—a more appropriate term for the employees—are ready to take on the world at A Latte Friends, a soon-to-open cafe in D’Iberville that employs young adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities.

“We’re trying to take the ‘inability’ out of the ability and make it a skill,” said owner Tanya Estep. “They’ll all feel part of the whole. They’ll have different roles and we hope to eventually train them in everything.”

The idea to open the cafe came from Estep, a retired special education teacher. She and two other special education teachers will run the cafe and help train these superstars so they are ready to give back to the community.

“When I retired, it was just my dream to do something like this and give back to the community,” Estep said.

From the sounds of it, their superstars seem to be in just as much of a hurry to get started.

“Just come by because the coffee is good. Trust me, the coffee here is good,” said superstar Gunner Price as he explained why community members should visit A Latte Friends.

“I’m looking forward to going to work in three weeks because I might like it here,” added superstar Caleb Gonzalez.

“I like it, it’s really cute here and stuff,” explained superstar Latia Williams. “I like it here and stuff because I work in a cafe.”

The opening of A Latte Friends is planned for the next few weeks.
