Colorado Springs City Council votes to vote on sales tax law in November

Colorado Springs City Council votes to vote on sales tax law in November

COLORADO SPRINGS – You may have seen signs about the road construction projects (known as 2-C) that were funded with your tax dollars.

The tax is about six cents per ten dollars spent.

Colorado Springs voters will decide in November whether or not to keep a sales tax to improve the city’s roads.

The Springs City Council voted today to put the measure on the ballot.

The people I spoke to are concerned about our roads and want to vote to repair them.

“The polite way to put it is that the roads are terrible,” said Scott Wolfe, a Colorado Springs resident.

As a taxpayer, he feels obliged to contribute to the maintenance of the roads he uses.
He tells me he knows what decision he is making on his ballot.

“I would definitely vote yes because we can do everything we can to fix our roads. Something has to be done.”

According to Colorado Springs’ website, the number of roads in “good” condition has nearly doubled and citizen complaints about potholes have fallen by more than half.

Unless voters decide to extend the tax for another ten years, it will be abolished in 2025.
