Shocking video: High school coach slams student to gym floor in El Paso

An El Paso high school coach has been placed on leave after a video circulated showing him slapping a student on the gym floor, reports said.

The video was recorded last week by a Parkland High School student, KFOX14 reported.

In the blurry and at times shaky video, the student in the red T-shirt appears to exchange a few words with the trainer before walking out of the frame.

You can see the trainer following the student, pulling him back into the picture and throwing him to the ground.

The camera pans to the ground and the trainer and students disappear from the picture. Screams and crying can be heard in the background.

The person filming pans back to the scene where the trainer appears to be standing over the student, who is still on the ground. The video ends with another person, possibly a faculty member, walking toward the trainer and student.

The student who was allegedly attacked is reportedly participating in the school’s special education program, but the Ysleta Independent School District was unable to confirm this for privacy reasons.

YISD shared the following statement with LoneStarLive.com:

“The incident is currently under investigation and the coach has been placed on leave. Because certain matters involving students and staff are confidential by law, the Ysleta Independent School District is prohibited from releasing further details. However, we want to assure the public that Ysleta ISD follows policy and takes appropriate action in all personnel matters.”

LoneStarLive.com reached out to El Paso Police to see if any charges had been filed regarding the alleged assault. Police said they had not received any reports regarding the situation.

“As of this morning, no report has been filed with the El Paso Police Department,” the police spokesman said Tuesday.

The circumstances leading to this incident and whether the student sustained any injuries are currently unknown.
