Janet Jackson’s family tree is quite impressive.
In an interview with Scott Mills on BBC Sounds, Jackson was asked if it was true that she was related to another legendary singer, Stevie Wonder.
“He’s our cousin,” Jackson said, while Mills expressed dismay. “Not many people know that. He’s our cousin on my mother’s side.”
But that was not all.
Jackson added: “That goes for Tracy Chapman too. And for Samuel L. Jackson.”
Mills was speechless, as were the rest of us. He had Jackson confirm once again that Wonder, Chapman and Jackson are indeed all cousins.
She even joked that Samuel L. Jackson, famous for his roles in the films “Pulp Fiction,” “Captain Marvel,” and “Snakes on a Plane,” was not one of her brothers despite having the same last name.
Janet Jackson is currently on a tour celebrating her hits from decades ago. And she is not the only member of the Jackson family riding the wave of success.
Chapman, who is known for her extremely reserved demeanor, is currently enjoying a minor career resurgence following country artist Luke Combs’ cover of her 1988 hit single “Fast Car.”
That cover reached No. 1 on the Country Airplay chart last year, making Chapman the first black woman to top the chart since the chart’s inception in 1990.
She and Combs received a standing ovation for their performance at the Grammys in February.
