Spanish authorities investigate music video for “Lifetimes”

Katy Perry is constantly being criticized.

The pop star is currently under investigation for possibly causing environmental damage to protected dunes while filming the music video for her new single “Lifetimes.”

The cordoned off dunes are located on the island of S’Espalmador, one of the Balearic Islands in Spain. The uninhabited island, a tiny spit of sand south of Ibiza, is only accessible by private boat and is a frequent mooring spot for yachts. Although filming may be permitted, the crew has been accused of failing to take any footage before shooting the pop star.

In a press release from the Balearic Islands’ environmental agency following the video’s release, it was made clear that Perry had not committed a “crime against the environment,” but merely an administrative offence. An investigation was underway to determine whether any damage had been caused in the restricted area, it said.

It further stated that “the production company had in no case applied for permission to film from the ministry and therefore preliminary investigative measures were initiated.”

In the video, Perry can be seen enjoying himself on the beach, on a boat, in the club and on the sand dunes. In an interview with The sunPerry said she wrote the tune for her daughter Daisy, whom she has with actor Orlando Bloom.

“I wrote ‘Lifetimes’ about her. Every night before we go to sleep, I say, ‘I love you,’ and then I ask, ‘Will you find me in every lifetime?’ and she says, ‘Yes,'” Perry told the newspaper.

The examination comes immediately after a difficult month for the singer.

Perry was criticized after the release of her single “Woman’s World” last month, which her fans found to be an embarrassing imitation of a feminist song.

In addition, Perry collaborated with notorious music producer Dr. Luke for her latest songs, which sparked heated reactions as he was accused of sexual assault by pop star Kesha. Luke denied the allegations and sued her for defamation. They settled out of court in 2023.

Criticism aside, the singles just didn’t sell well. Forbes reports that “Woman’s World,” which was marketed as her comeback single, debuted at number 110 on Spotify’s US charts; a shocking drop for an artist who once dominated the top ten.

Perry has not yet commented on the investigation and remains busy promoting her singles in anticipation of the album. 143Release date expected on September 20th.
