Get going with «In My Ride»

Gay rapper Prettiboiroq is making waves again with his electrifying new summer anthem “In My Ride.” This hot track, with a catchy chorus and beach-pop vibe, captures the thrill of young love in California. Inspired by his short-lived but intense romance, Prettiboiroq says, “I had just ended a long-term relationship and was discouraged by the dating scene when I met my ‘In My Ride’ guy. He showed me that I could bond with someone and that I had the ability to love again.”

Exploring new horizons

Following the success of his single “Bad Bitch Alert,” Prettiboiroq wanted to showcase a different facet of his artistry with “In My Ride.” “I wanted to showcase my versatility as an artist and do more than just talk about shaking my booty and being bad,” he explains from his home in Los Angeles. Gay hip-hop often focuses on sex and casual flings, but Prettiboiroq believes love isn’t portrayed enough. “Most of us experience real romance and casual encounters in equal measure,” he notes.

A pop-oriented sound

Sonically, “In My Ride” is a marked departure from his earlier work, recalling the pulsating energy of Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream” era. “I wanted a pop-oriented sound that embodied the summer love and emotions I was experiencing at the time,” explains Prettiboiroq. Directed by Nicholas Eastman, the music video tells the story of a couple’s idyllic first date, from the beach to the Santa Monica Pier. “The scene had to highlight the connection between two people without being sexually explicit,” notes Prettiboiroq, emphasizing the emotional bond over physical intimacy.

From small town to big dreams

Growing up in a small town in North Carolina, Prettiboiroq faced numerous challenges, from family difficulties to bullying. At 18, he moved to Los Angeles and devoted himself to his passion for music, drawn by the expressiveness of hip hop. Since the release of his debut single “Prettiboi Anthym” in 2015, Prettiboiroq has evolved significantly as an artist. “With this new project, I’m creating music that tells my story and who I am today,” he says, reflecting on his artistic and personal development.
