(autotag)Lone’er Kavanagh (/autotag) kicked off Season 8 of Dana White’s Contender Series with a bang on Tuesday, scoring a knockout that had the UFC CEO writing “Holy sh*t” on his fight plan.
In the season opener, Kavanagh (7-0) beat the previously unbeaten (autotag) An Tuan Ho (/autotag) (6-1) with a brutal left hook that ended the fight after 2:35 minutes in round 1. The fight took place as part of the DWCS 67 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.
Ho lay on the mat for a long time, staring blankly into the distance, while his corners, medical staff and referee Herb Dean tried to help him stand. Eventually Ho got up on his own, but was not present when the official decision was read.
Kavanagh, 25, is the latest Cage Warriors product to impress UFC brass. Tuesday’s knockout was the fifth of his seven-fight career. The win was Kavanagh’s fifth in a row over a previously unbeaten fighter.
