Katy Perry’s “Lifetimes” video is being investigated for possible environmental damage

Katy Perry’s latest music video is causing controversy in Spain.

Almost a week after the 39-year-old pop superstar released her music video “Lifetimes,” the Balearic Islands’ Ministry of the Environment issued a press release on August 14 saying the production company behind the clip had not obtained proper authorization to film in the protected sand dunes of the Ses Salines Natural Park.

Now the Ministry of Environment is investigating the possibility that the filming of the music video, directed by Stillz and starring Perry, caused environmental damage to the beach, according to the press release translated from Spanish into English.

According to the press release, filming “Lifetimes” is not a “crime against the environment,” but rather a violation. The Ministry of Environment pointed out that the video production “can be approved” through the appropriate channels.

A spokesperson for Perry did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
