MUNCIE, IN—For Moghees Sheikh, choosing Muncie as Buyer’s Market’s first location was largely a coincidence. “The opportunity came at the right time,” Sheikh said of the purchase of the former Macy’s building. Now, nearly 4 years later, the company is putting down more roots. “I gave up my life to move to this community, and I’m not going anywhere. I tell my friends about Muncie all the time,” explained the entrepreneur, who is originally from Canada.

Buyer’s Market operates on a simple model: They contract with major retailers to resell excess inventory, give customers deep discounts and reduce the waste of unsold product. After the overwhelming success of the Muncie location, the chain has now expanded to 8 locations in Indiana and recently leased the former Pepsi building on North Walnut in Muncie for further expansion opportunities.

The Pepsi building will serve as a sorting and storage facility where bulk shipments from retailers can be efficiently priced and distributed. The new facility will create up to 60 new jobs.

“We wanted to maintain a good partnership with Buyer’s Market and keep the jobs here in Muncie,” commented Mayor Dan Ridenour. “Muncie is a great place to do business and we love seeing new businesses grow.”

Work on building the new facility has already begun. It is expected to be operational by the end of the year.
