TRANSCRIPT OF THE MISSION:

The people of the Centerville Trace neighborhood are getting a traffic safety improvement that has been years in the making.

The district is setting up a turning lane after neighbors raised concerns about rear-end collisions.

The county is preparing one side of Centerville Road for the widening that has been a request of neighbors like Pat Glennon for years.

Since 2017, neighbors of Centerville Trace have raised concerns about the safety of the road.

According to residents, there is a high risk of rear-end collisions for motorists heading north who stop to turn left into the residential area. This fact is supported by a 2016 traffic study conducted in the area.

I spoke to Glennon in April when she and other neighbors took their concerns to the County Commission.

Months later, she said she was thrilled that the work was bearing fruit.

“We’re so excited because it’s finally getting done,” Glennon said. “People have just been holding their breath and waiting.”

County Commissioner Brian Welch said it has been a long road to get to this point.

I asked him what the way here was.

“Centerville is a tree-top road, so there’s not a lot of room there,” Welch said. “We’ve been working with the property owner for a number of years to make sure all the T’s are crossed and all the I’s are dotted so everything is right.”

The roads are currently being prepared for the construction of the turning lane. This is expected to take approximately 6 weeks.

Construction of the roadway is expected to be completed in February.

Commissioner Welch said delays or lane closures should be expected during the work.
