Grocery stores are restocking after nearly a week without power

MENTOR, Ohio (WOIO) – Mentor Family Foods reopened Monday following the severe weather and tornadoes that hit our area last week.

“They lost all the coolers, all the crates, and now we’re just starting to get back on top,” said co-owner PJ Conway.

Conway told 19 News that the store lost 200 coolers full of groceries during the power outage. That’s thousands of dollars in losses that Conway says he can’t take into account.

“Get it done and then worry,” Conway said. “Now you can stop worrying, it’s done.”

Conway and his team make sure all the fresh food gets out quickly. But as soon as they put something out, it gets taken away again.

You must be under time pressure to meet demand.

“You can’t do everything at once,” Conway explained. “Everything has to be prepared, meat, dairy, fruits and vegetables. It doesn’t happen overnight.”

Longtime customer Tyler Jenkins is grateful to the workers who are helping feed a hungry community.

“We business owners need our proteins, we need our produce, all of our essential dry goods,” Jenkins said.

Conway says none of this would have been possible without his suppliers and employees.

He expressed his hope that everything would return to normal by next week.

“Thank you guys, we wouldn’t be here without you,” Conway said.
