What you should know about the theatrical release of “Frozen 3” in 2027

Top line

The third installment of the Frozen films is scheduled to hit theaters on November 24, 2027, reportedly after the release date was pushed back due to production delays.

Key data

Disney told Forbes on Tuesday that the official release date will be the day before Thanksgiving in 2027, after the company confirmed at its D23 conference last week that Frozen 3 would be released sometime in 2027.

The first look at concept art for the third film was also shown at D23 last week. It showed sisters Anna and Elsa – along with their snowman friend Olaf – riding horses towards the horizon.

The film was originally scheduled to be released in 2026, but was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and strikes by actors and writers last year, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Both Frozen and Frozen II were released around Thanksgiving weekend—in 2013 and 2019, respectively—and were two consecutive billion-dollar films for Disney, according to data from BoxOfficeMojo.

Forbes has reached out to Disney to confirm the release date.

Will there be a “Frozen 4”?

Disney CEO Bob Iger has hinted at a fourth installment of Frozen 4 in the past, but the company has not yet made any official announcement about a fourth installment. At D23 last Friday, Chief Creative Officer of Walt Disney Animation, Jennifer Lee has apparently confirmed another film, saying, “Frozen 2 raised a lot of questions… it’s going to take two movies to answer them.”

Large number

$2.7 billion. That’s how much “Frozen” and “Frozen II” earned Disney worldwide during their theatrical runs. “Frozen” grossed $1.3 billion when it was released in 2013, and was surpassed by its sequel, which grossed $1.4 billion.

What you should pay attention to

Whether “Frozen 3” will beat “Inside Out 2” at the box office. Before this summer, “Frozen 2” was the highest-grossing animated film, ahead of “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” ($1.36 billion) and its first installment. But at the end of July, “Inside Out 2” became the highest-grossing animated film, earning more than $1.4 billion at the box office since its release in June.

tangent

A few other film announcements were made at the D23 conference, including the release date for the third “Avatar” film, “Avatar: Fire and Ashes” (December 19, 2025). Pixar’s “Hoppers,” a film about a young girl whose brain is put into a beaver, is set to hit theaters on March 6, 2026, Deadline reported.
