Paul Heyman: Hopefully what Roman Reigns does next will eclipse the work we’ve done over the last four years

Paul Heyman comments on the return of Roman Reigns.

Roman Reigns returned to WWE at WWE SummerSlam and took aim at Solo Sikoa and the new Bloodline (Tama Tonga, Tonga Loa and Jacob Fatu). Solo had declared himself Tribal Chief in Roman’s absence, eliminating Jimmy Uso and Paul Heyman in the process.

Bryan Danielson: I had so much fun wrestling with Jeff Jarrett, some older wrestlers have a real magic

Speaking to Jeremy Hanna of Newsweek, Heyman commented on Roman’s return.

“No matter where we go with Roman Reigns, it has to be a path that is just logical and makes sense, but that is new, unique and different. (One) that the audience can take that journey with him. What is the compelling scenario that puts the Head of the Table, the Tribal Chief, the now former champion Roman Reigns in such a predicament and such a situation where there are multiple catalysts in play at once that the story itself is so compelling that you can’t take your eyes off it because it can go in so many different directions. Roman Reigns’ return at SummerSlam 2020, he was on television this Friday. In the last five seconds of the television show, we revealed that Roman Reigns was dating Brock Lesnar’s endorsee Paul Heyman. ‘What does this mean for WWE?’ This weekend he’s in a triple threat match against Fiend and Braun Strowman. He’s going to be the Universal Heavyweight Champion. His first interview appearance was the following Friday with me, with the title on his shoulder. Until this week at SummerSlam, Roman Reigns had never been seen on TV in a lengthy match without him being the champion. He was the champion the whole time. The entire Bloodline storyline was about Roman Reigns being the champion.

“We’re in a new era of Bloodline history now where Roman Reigns is not the champion. How does he correct that? How does he take back the name of the Tribal Chief? Who’s the head of the table, Solo or Roman Reigns? Jimmy’s not here. Jey’s not here. The Wiseman isn’t back yet. How does Roman Reigns handle this on his own? Is this a revenge story like an old spaghetti western where a guy goes back and cleans up the village and gets his revenge? Or is it a revenge story where he can’t do it on his own even if he had to? What twists and turns happen then? We’ve got a long road ahead of us. All I can say is that for me, the way I see it unfolding and the many ways we can approach it, it’s going to be fascinating and hopefully it’s going to eclipse what we’ve done over the last four years.”

It is not known if and when Heyman will be seen on television again.

Roman is expected to appear on the August 16 episode of WWE SmackDown. Fans can view the current lineup for the show here.
