SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts (WGGB/WSHM) — Almost a year to the day, an Agawam man was arrested by authorities in connection with a murder in Springfield.
This is according to a statement from the Springfield police, which announced the latest developments in the murder of 25-year-old Gary White on Tuesday morning.
This happened within hours of arresting 26-year-old Jared Dewberry at his home on Glendale Road in Agawam.
Dewberry was arrested on Tuesday around 9:45 a.m.
The murder occurred on August 10, 2023.

White was found by police that day on East Columbus Avenue with a gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital but did not survive his injuries.
Since then, Springfield police have been investigating his murder.
Now, almost a year later, they announced an arrest in this case.
“On August 13, 2024, detectives requested and obtained an arrest warrant for Dewberry. Members of the FIU and assisting agencies located Dewberry at his home in the 0-100 block of Glendale Road in Agawam and arrested him,” Springfield police said.
Dewberry was arrested Tuesday morning at Springfield Police Headquarters.
“At the time of the murder and subsequent arrest, Dewberry was out on bail for another weapons offense in June 2020,” Springfield police said.
Dewberry is scheduled to go to trial Tuesday afternoon on several charges, including murder, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, carrying a firearm without a permit and carrying a loaded firearm without a permit.
