Vice presidential candidate Tim Walz makes a short stopover in Colorado on Wednesday

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz will travel to Colorado on Wednesday as part of his first solo trip as Vice President Kamala Harris’s running mate.

But Democratic supporters who were eager to see him will be disappointed: his campaign appearance will not be open to the public.

According to a schedule released by the Harris-Walz campaign, the Minnesota governor will speak at a closed-door campaign reception in Denver. The appearance is part of a nationwide fundraising campaign for the newly formed Democratic ticket. Walz will also stop in California, New York, Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

Harris nominated Walz as her running mate last week. The Harris campaign said Walz has a good track record of advancing the policy goals the current vice president wants to advance this election cycle and appeals to a crucial voting bloc in the Midwest. Before entering politics, Walz was a high school teacher, football coach and served in the military.

Colorado may not be considered a swing state, but both campaign teams see it as a place to raise money. Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump attended a private fundraiser in Aspen over the weekend. Attendees had to pay at least $25,000 to enjoy a private dinner with the former president.

Following his fundraiser, Trump described Colorado on the Truth Social portal as “truly a beautiful part of the world,” while also criticizing the state as a “POLITICAL SWAMP” because of its mail-in voting policy.
