Mandeville man sentenced to 25 years in prison for second-degree rape of young girl

COVINGTON, Louisiana (WVUE) – A Mandeville man must serve a 25-year sentence in state prison after pleading guilty Monday (August 12) to rape and sexual assault of an underage girl.

Colby Shane Maye, 49, will serve his sentence without the possibility of parole. After his release from prison at age 74, Maye will be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

According to the office of Washington-St. Tammany Parish District Attorney Collin Sims, in 2022 a 16-year-old girl came forward and revealed to a “trusted adult” that she had been sexually abused by Maye several years earlier.

She later told St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office investigators that the sexual abuse stopped when she was 14. However, she also said Maye forced her to participate in various sexual acts several times over the course of several years.

Authorities said Maye was arrested as he was checking himself into a hospital. He initially denied the charges. Prosecutors said Maye eventually agreed to change his confession as part of an agreement supported by his victim and her mother. The victim did not attend Monday’s hearing, but her mother read a victim impact statement to the court describing the long-term damage and trauma the abuse caused the girl.

Maye pleaded guilty to second-degree rape and sexual assault and was immediately sentenced to 25 years in prison by District Judge Vincent Lobello.

Assistant District Attorneys Amanda Gritten and Elizabeth Authement prosecuted the case.
