Valve’s Deadlock is making waves with a staggering number of players in the closed beta despite the lack of an official announcement. Here’s how to get access through the game.
It’s no secret that Valve is working on an as-yet-unannounced game called Deadlock. This latest project, which combines elements from titles such as Dota 2, Team Fortress 2, and Overwatch, is currently in a closed beta phase.
Deadlock first made headlines a few months ago when images from the closed alpha test started circulating on social media. Release and gameplay information remain shrouded in mystery, as once you open the game you’re told you can’t show or talk about anything in the game.
Remarkably, it has already attracted over 200,000 players, with the number of concurrent online players approaching 20,000. According to SteamDB, the game recently peaked at 16,947 players, almost making it into the top 100 most played games on Steam
Gameplay clips from this steampunk-style 6v6 shooter still occasionally surface online, even though Valve owns the copyright to these clips, but they continue to arouse curiosity and speculation.
How to get the deadlock code
Unfortunately, access to Deadlock is primarily gained through invites from existing players who have been invited to the closed beta. If you have friends who are already participating, you can ask them to invite you. Valve has made it relatively easy for current players to invite their Steam friends, which helps gradually expand the beta testing pool.
Currently, there is no public method or official channel to obtain a deadlock code outside of this invite system. Valve has not yet shared any details about the game’s official release or potential announcements. Some reports suggest that the game may still be in development and may have placeholder assets and optimizations, particularly for compatibility with the Steam Deck.
In the meantime, fans are eagerly awaiting an official reveal. Valve has been busy with other projects, including major updates to Steam and rumors of a Half-Life 2 game. While “Valve time” can be unpredictable, there is hope that Deadlock will be officially revealed soon.
