US bank Altitude Connect lowers annual fee and some important benefits

What is changing

Annual fee

The US Bank Altitude® Connect Visa Signature® Card has charged an annual fee of $0 introductory for the first year, then $95 thereafter. In the future, the annual fee will be $0. This is a welcome change for anyone who wants a rewards credit card with no annual fee.

Earn Rewards

Cardholders will continue to earn 4 points per dollar spent at gas stations and electric vehicle charging stations, but starting September 9, 2024, 4X Rewards will be subject to a quarterly spending cap of $1,000.

The card will continue to earn 2 points per dollar spent on dining and streaming services, as well as at grocery stores, but discount stores, supercenters and wholesale clubs will be removed from the grocery store category.

Redeem rewards

Previously, points were worth 1 cent each for various redemptions, including cash back in the form of account credits. The redemption rate for account credits will be reduced to 0.8 cents per point. Points will continue to be worth 1 cent per point when redeemed for travel or charitable donations.

Further advantages

The US Bank Altitude® Connect Visa Signature® Card is eliminating both its cell phone protection and its $30 annual credit for streaming services.

However, if you redeem your points for a charitable donation, US Bank will match your points 100%.

Benefits for the future

After the changes US Bank Altitude® Connect Visa Signature® Card will earn:

  • 5 points per dollar spent on prepaid hotels and car rentals booked through the Altitude Rewards Center.

  • 4 points per $1 for travel.

  • 4 points per $1 on gasoline and electric vehicle charging (with the $1,000 quarterly limit mentioned above).

  • 2 points per $1 spent on food.

  • 2 points per $1 spent on streaming services.

  • 2 points per $1 spent at grocery stores (excluding discount stores, supercenters and wholesale clubs).

  • 1 point per $1 on other purchases.

In addition, the card continues to offer benefits such as a credit of up to $100 toward the TSA PreCheck or Global Entry application fee, four free visits to Priority Pass airport lounges per year, and travel protection.
