Windows ISO download app Oofhours Media Tool now supports writing images to USB

There are numerous ways to download original, official and unofficial images of Windows 10 or 11. In 2023, a new app called Oofhours Media Tool appeared, providing users with a handy utility to download any edition or version of Windows. However, the original March 2023 release lacked the ability to write downloaded ISO files to USB. This omission has now finally been fixed.

Michal Niehaus, the developer of the Oofhours Media Tool (OMT), has released a new version that can finally create bootable media, so users don’t have to download another application. When you launch the updated version of Michal’s Media Tool, you are given two options: create a bootable ISO and save it to your computer, or create bootable media.

Like Microsoft’s original Media Creation Tool, OMT will erase your USB drive and format it to FAT32 before writing the downloaded ISO file. Note that USB drives larger than 32GB will be formatted with a single 32GB partition, leaving the rest of the drive unused.

By the way, Microsoft has finally raised the 32GB limit for FAT32 drives to 2TB in the latest Windows 11 preview builds, specifically Canary Build 27686. However, this change is not yet included in stable versions, so customers will have to live with the limitation until Microsoft fixes it.

Oofhours Media Tool is available for free as an open-source app on GitHub. It lets you download a specific version of Windows with a specific architecture, language, edition, and SKU. While regular users can get by just fine with the standard Media Creation Tool, OMT can be a great help for enthusiasts who want a specific ISO for specific reasons. It’s also worth noting that OMT gets ESD files directly from Microsoft without any modifications.
