Marvel’s 85th anniversary video is an emotional journey and offers (brief) first glimpses of Thunderbolts* and Daredevil: Born Again

Deadpool & Wolverine was the box office hit that Disney and Marvel Studios expected, but most fans are still not convinced We are back. Sure, other recent movies and shows have been pretty good, but since about 2022, we’ve been stuck in a mostly mediocre to bad zone that lacks the shine of the Infinity Saga days. Well, this 85th anniversary video really tries to sell the idea that things are about to get better.

Released alongside an in-depth article in Entertainment Weekly, the 2:40 minute video celebrates Marvel as a whole and its history, but clearly focuses on the film and television side of the company, which is pretty crazy when you think about it. I guess people just don’t read as many comics anymore.

The whole thing is admittedly emotional, as it doesn’t forget the founding fathers of Marvel and its core characters, as well as the legacy created off-screen. Things get more surprising when it crosses over into movies and TV shows, and we get some snippets from the Fox movies and even ABC’s Agent Carter. Of course, not every show and movie about Marvel characters gets its moment in the spotlight, but personally I’d say they did a good job of capturing why people have been interested in these stories and characters for so long.

The first looks at Thunderbolts*, Daredevil: Born Again, Ironheart, and the Red Hulk (played by Harrison Ford) from Captain America: Brave New World last barely a few seconds, but the most diehard fans will appreciate finally getting HD footage of these upcoming projects after weeks of cell phone shots and blurry photos uploaded to social media following the SDCC and D23 panels.

Next up from M is Agatha All Along, a witchy sequel to WandaVision that may be late but could still make for an entertaining Spooktober movie. In 2025, we get at least Daredevil: Born Again and Ironheart on Disney Plus, while the theatrical version presents Captain America: Brave New World, the crossover event Thunderbolts* and The Fantastic Four. Surely some of these have to be good and make us a little bit excited for Avengers: Doomsday, right?
