Metro offers free bus rides to eligible CPS students

CINCINNATI (WXIX) – Cincinnati Metro is offering free bus rides to eligible Cincinnati Public School students.

Metro says eligible students in grades 7 through 12 who have a Metro Smart Card can ride the bus for free throughout the school year.

“Our mission is to provide a safe, reliable and convenient transportation option that helps CPS students connect school with home,” Metro says.

Metro recommends that students download the transit app to view real-time bus tracking and plan their rides in advance. While most students have a direct route to and from class, a small portion of students who live far from their desired school may need to transfer once.

Metro staff will be present at all CPS orientations and transit centers during the first few days of school to help families plan school rides and answer any questions. Parents and guardians are also welcome to take their students on the Metro for free from August 14-23.

In addition to CPS students, Metro has partnered with the University of Cincinnati, Cincinnati State and Xavier University. Students and employees of these institutions who enroll in Metro’s University EZRide program can ride Metro for free during the first 30 to 60 days of school. After this promotional period, participating students and employees can ride Metro for just $1 per ride year-round.
