REYNOLDSVILLE – Two local legislators came to our area Tuesday to discuss and address our concerns.

At the invitation of the Brookville Chamber of Commerce, Senator Chris Dush and Representative Brian Smith spoke to residents at Jeff Tech Square about their problem areas.

Senator Dush spoke at length about the budget and the potential fiscal crisis that may lie ahead, stating, “We simply don’t have the money.” He also added that he disagrees with the governor’s spending habits and that taxes may need to be raised as a result.

However, the senator pointed out that over the past three years, the state’s funding has increased from the bottom five percent of all states to above-average levels.

Representative Brian Smith echoed the senator’s sentiments, saying no issue was too small for him.

“That’s one thing about this job, the problems don’t stop,” said Rep. Smith. “As soon as you solve a problem or try to solve a problem or get someone on the right track, the next call comes along or the constituent calls and has another problem. That’s one of the reasons I love the job, I like to keep moving, it keeps you young, it keeps you doing what you can. So there was nothing really special, there was a lot of good conversation, but it’s all important.”

Representative Smith hopes to be able to attend the meeting again at the end of September.
