Rob “The Rabbit” Pitts, star of the Netflix reality series “Tex Mex Motors,” died of stomach cancer on Sunday. He was 45 years old.
“It is with a heavy heart that I write of the passing of my actor and friend ROB ‘RABBIT’ PITTS,” Pitts’ “Tex Mex Motors” co-star Marcos “Scooter” Carrera wrote in an Instagram post on Sunday. “Rest in peace brother, I will truly miss you!”
The reality TV star and CEO of Pitts Truck Service was diagnosed with stomach cancer in March while filming the second season of the Netflix series “Tex Mex Motors,” according to a video titled “This Is Goodbye” posted to Pitts’ YouTube page Sunday night.
Pitts’ videographer Jeff Trahan confirmed his death in the comments section, saying, “I’m with him in hospice now. He just passed away on 08/25/2024 at 9:45 p.m. He will be missed and never forgotten!”
According to the video, before his diagnosis, Pitts lost his appetite and suffered from symptoms similar to acid reflux.
Pitts refused urgent treatment, but was officially diagnosed with stomach cancer after fellow actor Jamie Hjelm took him to the emergency room.
“Don’t be sad for me… I achieved my dream of buying my own store, finishing Season 2 of Netflix and marrying the love of my life,” Pitts said in the video announcement, which had been viewed over 2.8 million times as of Wednesday.
At the end of the video, he encouraged others to take care of themselves: “If your body is telling you something is wrong, don’t stop until you figure it out. Ask questions and get answers.”
“Tex Mex Motors,” directed by Pitts and Scooter, premiered in June 2023. The series was renewed for a second season, which began production earlier this year.
The show follows the two men as they search for vintage cars in Mexico and transport them to El Paso, Texas, where they undergo extensive restoration.
