In the latest step on the way to becoming an “all-rounder app”, Elon Musk’s X (formerly Twitter) is now exploring the possibility of video conferencing.
X employee Chris Park posted a screenshot of the tool on his profile and revealed that the company recently conducted its first internal video call using the new tool called “X Conference.”
Park claimed that initial feedback has been positive and that the company plans to add features like speaker pinning and improved notifications when users leave or join calls. The developers are also likely working on reducing UI flickering between speaker views to prevent the speaker from seeing themselves as often.

Among the comments was a fire emoji from Musk himself, suggesting that the post hints at an upcoming launch and is not just a rumor.
App developers who tested the new tool said it could also be supported within the iOS app and that unique meeting codes could be added to improve security.
The development follows X’s recent efforts to challenge platforms such as LinkedIn for job postings and PayPal for payment methods. The company is now targeting providers such as Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams in the video conferencing space.
Although it is a new feature, X already uses live video streaming through the Spaces feature, which could integrate with, or at least inspire, the X conference.
However, since Musk took over in late 2022, the platform has not been without criticism. In particular, users have expressed concern about the lack of proper IP masking and the default-enabled approach of the new calling feature.
Given the controversy surrounding the platform – and its ownership – the demand for a video conferencing platform owned by X is unclear. However, as hybrid and remote working continue to enjoy popularity around the world (even if Musk isn’t a fan of it), there’s undoubtedly room in this space for another online collaboration tool.
