YouTube expands video timestamp sharing for mobile users

For years, YouTube users on desktop computers could share specific moments in videos by adding timestamps to the links. But on mobile devices, this convenience was missing, forcing users to manually navigate to the desired point. Thankfully, that’s changing.

YouTube is finally bringing the ability to share timestamps to its mobile app, making it easier to share the moment you want with friends and family. No more fiddling around with URLs or copying and pasting timestamps.

Imagine finding a funny clip in a long video. With YouTube’s new timestamp sharing, you can instantly send your friends a link that takes them straight to the funny part, saving them time and effort. It’s like having a personal video curator.

There is a small catch, however: unlike the desktop version, the mobile app does not allow manual timestamp entry. Instead, the app captures your current position in the video and uses that as a timestamp. If you want to adjust the timestamp, you will have to browse the video to find the exact spot.

While functionality is relatively limited on mobile, it’s a small trade-off for the easy ability to share your current location. The feature is a welcome addition for mobile users who have long wanted the convenient way to share timestamps without any extra steps.

It’s important to note that this feature is still in its rollout phase and may not be available to all users yet. If you don’t see the option on your device, updating the app to the latest version and clearing the cache may help.

As YouTube introduces a feature similar to X’s community notes, it’s safe to assume that misinformation will be pinned on the platform.
