Which car would you put Dodge’s new Hurricane engine in?

The wait for Dodge’s latest crate engines is over, as Mopar is releasing the “Hurricrate” series, which consists of two different versions of the same engine based on the Hurricane inline-six. The new crate engines bring modern twin-turbo power under the hood of any machine you dream up, or into any engine bay that the drop-in Hurricane can fit into, and we’re wondering: what car would you put the new Hurricrate engine in?

The box engines will be available from August, either as Hurricrate Cat 1 or Cat 3. The Hurricrate Cat 1 is the “entry-level engine” according to Mopar Insiderbut it’s still a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six that makes 420 horsepower and 560 Nm of torque at 2,500 rpm. The turbos deliver up to 1.8 bar of peak boost and the engine has a compression ratio of 10.4:1. It costs $10,495 from Mopar Direct Connection or the dealer.

The Hurricane Cat 3 is also a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six, but it features upgraded twin Garrett turbochargers, among other things, that deliver a total of 550 hp and 531 lb-ft of torque at 3,500 rpm. The twin Garrett turbochargers deliver 26 psi of peak boost and the engine’s compression ratio drops to 9.5:1, but Mopar still recommends using premium fuel. The higher-performance version of the Hurricane crate engine starts at $13,745.

There will be a higher performance version of the Hurricrate later on, aimed at drag racing builds and other “high performance” applications, but the specs of that engine are still unknown. Whether you’re dragging, drifting, or doing a hardcore restomod, the Hurricrate brings Dodge’s newest engine to your project.

What My When it comes to the Hurricane project, there’s only one choice, and that’s a Plymouth Neon. I don’t know if that’s possible, but do me a favor and just imagine a two-door Neon sedan with over 500 horsepower – a home-built evolution of the Neon ACR. Tell us in the comments below if you’d be brave (or flying) enough to harness that power, and tell us what car would be your first choice for the Hurricane crate engine.
