Jenn Tran left nothing unsaid while he exchanged words with Sam McKinney To The Bachelorette: Men spill the beans.
“It was a great feeling to finally be able to get rid of it,” 26-year-old Jenn told We weekly after Men tell everything Record. “You look at things again, you get a full picture, a more complete picture of everything and how things turned out. So it was nice to just be able to lay it all out there and say what I really thought about everything.”
Jenn noted that she wanted to “address comments” that Sam had made online. (Since the show aired in July, Sam and his loved ones have criticized the show for portraying him in a negative light.)
On the Tuesday, August 27 episode, Jenn didn’t hold back when she addressed Sam, who she said had “a few warning flags.”
“I’m going to say this in words that you’ll understand. So I’m going to leave the most important thing here as the most important thing,” she said, referring to his infamous hit song. “I wasn’t upset that you didn’t know how to describe love. Obviously we’re on very different emotional and intellectual levels. That’s OK.”
Instead, Jenn said, she was bothered by Sam’s “obvious disrespect for everyone.” In retrospect, Jenn realized that their relationship “revolved around” Sam and his feelings.
“You rewatched that and instead of growing and learning from it, you decided to go one step further and have your friends and family go online to defend your honor when you’re a grown man,” she said. “And instead of taking responsibility for your actions, you decided to blame the producers, the editing, the TV show, whatever. Ultimately, the man I saw on TV was the exact man I sat across from for the entire journey.”
After receiving applause from the audience, Jenn concluded her message by saying she wanted Sam to “get better.”
“But if you don’t step back and look at what you saw and take responsibility for your actions and grow and learn, then I feel very, very sorry for whoever you end up with, because this delusional world you’re living in right now and this denial is not going to work for anyone,” she said.
When it was Sam’s turn to respond, he explained that he felt he had taken on “a lot of responsibility” when he was in the hot seat with Jesse Palmer earlier in the episode.
“I definitely lost myself in some of those moments. And I wish I could go back and relive them honestly,” he admitted. “You saw the walls that I had built around my heart, you saw them before me. And that’s something I’m forever grateful for and that’s something I can pass on to my next partner. For that, I really just want to say thank you.”
Jenn replied, “I really hope you mean it and aren’t just saying that because I really wish you the best.”
While sitting with Jesse minutes before speaking to Jenn, Sam admitted that he had “difficulty” rewatching the season. He also explained why he called Jenn “boring” during their breakup and explained that the couple was able to communicate through their eyes.
“Her eyes don’t lie,” he said. “So when she walked into the room, I could see in her eyes that there was no energy. There wasn’t what I normally saw there. So I didn’t call her dull. I truthfully said her eyes were dull and that was the moment.”
Jeremy Simonwho left the show after the hometowns, joked that he wasn’t sure where Sam’s eyes really were. (In an earlier episode of The BacheloretteSam had openly said he thought the Bachelorette would consist of former candidates Daisy Kent or Maria Georgas.)
“When we all came here, we didn’t know who The Bachelorette But if anyone sits here and says they didn’t think it would be Daisy or Maria, then you’re a liar,” said Sam.
The Bachelorette The season 21 finale airs Tuesday, September 3 at 8 p.m. on ABC.
