General HR McMaster (retired): President Trump has implemented the only sensible and sustainable approach to Afghanistan that we have had in the entire course of this war

General Human Resources McMaster (retired), former National Security Advisor during the Trump administration and author of the new book, “At War with Ourselves: My Tour of Duty in the Trump White House,” joined Brian Kilmeade to discuss the day’s news, including Israel’s preemptive strike in Lebanon, the war between Russia and Ukraine, and the anniversary of the 13 U.S. soldiers killed during the Afghanistan withdrawal in 2021. While McMaster doesn’t know exactly how Donald Trump would have handled the Afghanistan withdrawal, he believes President Trump took the only sensible and sustainable approach to Afghanistan that we’ve had throughout the entire war. McMaster pointed to an August 2017 speech in which Trump laid out a different approach with no timetable for withdrawal, letting Afghans bear the brunt of the fight while the U.S. does everything it can to support them. McMaster also defended General Miley for not resigning despite his criticism of President Biden’s approach to the withdrawal. Miley’s job is to give the best military advice and not to cross the line between advice and policy-making. He added: Nobody elects generals, you want the elected officials to make the policy decisions.
In addition, McMaster explains why it is right to remove Confederate names from military bases and what connection this naming has to the Jim Crow era.
