Murder of Octavia Redmond: Video shows wanted person in connection with the postman’s death

Chicago police have released video of a person wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of a U.S. Postal Service letter carrier last month.

On July 19 at approximately 11:38 a.m., 48-year-old mail carrier Octavia Redmond was standing outside a home in the 12100 block of South Harvard when someone approached her, fired several shots, and then fled the scene in a white Dodge Durango.

Redmond was shot multiple times in the body and taken to Christ Hospital, where she later died.

The next day, the vehicle allegedly used in the murder was found set on fire in the 8900 block of South Holland Road in Chicago’s West Chatham neighborhood.

Chicago police are still investigating whether Redmond was the target of the attack, as none of her belongings were stolen.

On Tuesday, more than a month after a shooting, police released video showing a suspect before the fatal shooting in the 7000 block of South Campbell and wanted in connection with the fatal shooting in Redmond.

Police said the man was wearing a black hoodie, black pants and black shoes. He was seen in the 7000 block of South Campbell before the fatal shooting.

Back in July, union leaders reported that 140 mail carriers had been attacked in Chicago over the past two years.

Anyone with information related to this shooting is asked to contact Detective Foy, Violent Crimes Area Two, at (312) 747-8271.
