Early on, the crew discussed which teams they would favor against the Dallas Cowboys as the 2024 season approaches.

This discussion came up after Cowboys wideout CeeDee Lamb signed a massive four-year contract worth $136 million on Monday.

For Sharpe, the Green Bay Packers, San Francisco 49ers and Detroit Lions were all ahead of Dallas at that point.

Sharpe also added the Los Angeles Rams to the mix “based on their performance last year,” specifically pointing to players like Puka Nacua, Cooper Kupp and Cam Akers.

About seven minutes later, however, Sharpe realized he had made a mistake.

Although he previously played for the Rams, Akers spent most of last season with the Minnesota Vikings and finished the year on the injured list.

When Sharpe realized his mistake, he interrupted Smith to correct him live on air.

He explained that he “misspoke” and confused Akers with Rams running back Kyren Williams, adding that Akers is now a member of the Houston Texans.

Nevertheless, Sharpe stuck to his earlier prediction that they could be more dangerous than the Cowboys.

While Smith and Scott let the mistake slide, the same could not be said for some viewers of “X.”

“@ShannonSharpe Cam Akers plays for the @HoustonTexans,” tweeted one fan.

“Someone tell @ShannonSharpe that Cam Akers is not on the Rams,” said a second.

And a third added: “@stephenasmith @ShannonSharpe the Rams don’t have Cam Akers you meant Kyren Williams… come on man get a grip on @FirstTake but yeah Rams > Cowboys.”

Despite overcoming a season-ending Achilles tendon injury, Akers put in impressive performances for the Texans during the preseason.

In the battle for the backup position behind Joe Mixon, Akers ran for 99 yards on 19 attempts and added another 43 yards on six pass catches.

Speaking to reporters after their win in the final preseason game against the Rams, Akers said he liked the Texans’ “winning culture.”

“Everyone has a common goal and that is the championship. It’s easy to join in,” he added.

The Texans begin their season on September 8 against their division rival, the Indianapolis Colts.

The following week, the first games of the season will take place when the Chicago Bears travel to Texas.
