Wolf Creek creator Greg McLean returns to biblical times for the supernatural thriller The First Exorcist
In April we learned that Greg McLean, the director of the horror films Wolf Creek, Wolf Creek 2, Rogue, The Darkness, And The Belko Experiment (as well as the survival thriller jungle), had signed to direct the action horror film Cemetery destruction based on a screenplay by Old Heinrich And Would you rather Author Gus Krieger … and while filming on that project is set to begin later this year, McLean is already looking ahead to his next project, as Deadline reports that he is writing a supernatural thriller called The first exorcistProduction is scheduled to begin sometime in 2025 in Victoria, Australia.
A collaboration between McLean’s Emu Creek Pictures and Mark Fennessy’s Helium, The first exorcist is, contrary to what the title suggests, not a prequel to The ExorcistThis is not a The first omen Situation. This is a separate and original project called “fascinating fusion of religious and supernatural events from biblical times,” follows a mother as she continues “a harrowing quest to save her daughter from demonic possession.“ Here is the summary: When her life becomes a nightmare, the mother learns of a mysterious healer who can exorcise demons and embarks on a dangerous race against time. On her dangerous mission to find the healer and save her daughter’s life, she encounters the hostile Roman authorities.
Notes on the deadline: “The plan is to bring epic ancient cities and locations to life in Victoria using cutting-edge virtual production technology.“
Fennessy made the following statement: “Greg’s script delivers an intensity and emotional depth that, combined with jaw-dropping scares, a fascinating historical backdrop and strong supernatural themes, will create a groundbreaking cinematic experience. I don’t really like exorcism movies, but I’ve been following McLean’s career since the beginning, so I’ll definitely watch the film. The first exorcistAnd although this is not part of the The Exorcist Franchise, this series is not inactive – Mike Flanagan will write a new script and direct The Exorcist Film expected to be released in 2026.
