My open letter to the workers you never see at Windsor Fair

My open letter to the workers you never see at Windsor Fair

As the week progresses and we enjoy every ride, food truck, band and event the annual Windsor Fair has to offer, I think about the people who make the event run smoothly for all who attend. Most of the people I think about are rarely seen, but their contribution is critical to the fair’s success.

Of course, at the fair you see the hard-working gatekeepers, the vendors and their staff, the security and fairground staff, and the ride operators. But in case you didn’t know, there are many important people who perform tasks that often go unnoticed.

Lizzy and I get here pretty early in the morning, in fact we’re here SEVERAL hours before the gates even open. When we arrive, the sun has barely risen, the rides are shut down, and the food stalls are all empty and closed.

Nevertheless, the exhibition grounds are still bustling with activity. Early in the morning, a group of people are busy emptying the overflowing garbage and recycling bins from the previous day. Pepsi employees are rushing to fill all the food trucks with ice-cold lemonade and water.

We often talk about the street sweeper that comes every morning at 6 a.m. to clean all the streets and sidewalks and make sure everything is clean for the next day.

So, to all of you – and I am sure there are many more that I have not seen and that go unnoticed by the vast majority of fairgoers – thank you for all that you do to keep Windsor Fair running smoothly all week.

I and all other participants appreciate you!
