Opening of Scruffy Dog Vintage Emporium planned in Grand Marais

Annette Block-Valdivia was inspired by her childhood and three shaggy dogs is set to open a new vintage store in Grand Marais full of antiques and unique jewelry.

“Inspiration comes first from alljust from collecting and watching my dad,” said Block-Valdivia. “He had barns full of antiques when we were growing up.”

The tradition of collecting remained an integral part of her life and when the opportunity to open a vintage store in Grand Marais recently arose, she jumped at the chance.

Block-Valdivia is hosting a gentle opening for their new store, Scruffy Dog Vintage Emporium, on Friday, August 30th from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The store, located in the former Superior RV Parts & Service building, will remain open through Labor Day weekend before returning to regular hours (with closures on Tuesdays and Wednesdays).

As the opening ceremony approaches, Block-Valdivia and friends are busy putting the finishing touches on the building and furnishing the space with vintage clothing, tableware, paintings, furniture and more.

The store will have “pretty much everything except really big pieces of furniture,” Block-Valdivia said. “I always say the crazier the better.”
