Tell us a little about yourself and what you currently do at GoDaddy.

I’m a lead researcher on the Global Research & Insights Team (GRIT) here at GoDaddy. Over the past decade, I’ve had the opportunity to dive deep into a variety of customer journeys and product experiences. I’m passionate about connecting the dots between our research, customer data, external insights, and my own experiences as a business owner who uses many GoDaddy products. From security solutions to domains and website builders, I’ve worn many hats at GoDaddy, and I love the challenge of understanding our customers’ needs and making recommendations.

What inspired your entrepreneurial spirit?

When I was a kid, my dad had a small computer software company that took up the basement of our house. It wasn’t successful, but I grew up with computers in the 80s. Then as an adult, I was exposed to the tech startup community while pursuing a PhD in biomedical and health informatics at the University of Washington. After graduating, I considered joining a young health tech startup, but I thought that would be too risky at that point in my life. I decided to start as a researcher at GoDaddy and put that dream on hold until it made sense to me.

In your private life, you are working on a communications app for the healthcare sector. Can you tell us more about it and how it came about?

The foundation for my company was laid many years ago. In 2007, a few students and I won a student scholarship at the University of Michigan School of Information. We proposed to develop an app for sharing expertise among doctors who Fallpedia. Fast forward to the pandemic, and a dear friend of mine, a successful pediatric dentist and entrepreneur, noticed dentists joining Facebook groups to share expertise. We decided to create a startup together called CaseDrive to focus on solving challenges in communicating with clinicians, a topic I studied extensively in graduate school. Since founding our company, we have identified a significant gap in the market, most recently for electronic health record providers and smaller healthcare organizations struggling with inefficiencies in patient-facing and internal communications.

How has GoDaddy helped you build your business?

We’ve purchased tons of domain names. I’ve built three websites through GoDaddy. They’re quick and easy to set up and go, so we can focus on customer needs and product delivery! We have email accounts and Microsoft 365 through GoDaddy. We use Domain Pay Links and the low GoDaddy Payments rates, which I think are unique offers worth spreading the word.

What did you learn from your side job that you were able to apply to your work at GoDaddy?

It’s so easy to empathize with our small business customers, as I am one myself! I feel every pain point and rejoice every time something goes right. I have (often strong) opinions on countless customer acquisition, product, and account management processes. I rejoice when our experiences change as product, marketing, and UX truly listen to what we employee entrepreneurs have to say. I also understand the business and strategy side of GoDaddy on a deeper level than before.

What advice would you give to others who want to start a side job alongside their full-time job?

Building a successful business takes time. Don’t be so hard on yourself. You have to really enjoy the journey to keep going when things get challenging – and they will.
