The former President of the United States Donald Trump He stated that if re-elected as US president, he would establish a “National Space Guard” and build an “Iron Dome” (“Iron Dome” after the short-range air defense systems in use in Israel) around US territory.
Trump, speaking at the US National Guard Association conference in Detroit yesterday, said he was proud to have ordered the creation of the sixth branch of the US armed forces during his presidency, the Space Force, which was created in 2019 to protect US space assets from threats from Russia and China. “One of my proudest accomplishments during my first term was the creation of the Space Force, the first new branch of the military in more than 70 years,” Trump said.
“Now that the Space Force is operational (…), I agree that the time has come to create the Space National Guard as the primary combat reserve of the Space Force.” Trump then promised to equip the US with a missile defense system modeled on Israel. “We will build a great iron missile defense dome around our country,” Trump said.
