When do the Summer Paralympics start?
The opening ceremony will air live on USA Network and Peacock at 2 p.m. ET on August 28. Ahmed Fareed and 13-time Paralympic medalist Chris Waddell will host this spectacular event. The actual games begin on August 29. There are 11 events, including gold medal competitions in para taekwondo, para swimming and para cycling.
The Paralympics will take place from August 28 to September 8.
Where will the 2024 Summer Paralympics take place?
This year’s Summer Paralympics will be held in Paris, France. However, due to the variety and quantity of sports practiced and the number of athletes involved, the events will be held in and around Paris, including in the suburbs of Saint-Denis, Versailles and Vaires-sur-Marne.
Which sports will be represented at the 2024 Olympic Games?
There are 22 sports being played this summer and we expect wheelchair basketball, wheelchair rugby, sitting volleyball, para swimming and para athletics, also known as track and field, to be as popular as ever.

220 athletes will compete for the USA, including 110 men and 110 women.
US Para-athletes at the 2024 Paralympics
This is always a fan favorite. We have 90 exciting events for the boys and 73 spectacular events for the girls. This year the Paralympics are exciting with more athletes and medals than ever before. It will be the biggest and boldest cycle yet.
Keep an eye on Nick Mayhugh and the rest of the US team. Nick has four medals in Tokyo and we’re going for more. His specialties are the 100m and 200m. He also brings his speed to the 100m relay, so we’re hoping for another US gold medal here.
How could we forget Hunter Woodhall, husband of long jump gold medalist Tara Davis-Woodhall? Hunter is hoping for another medal in the 400m. He already has two bronze medals in Rio and Tokyo.
US wheelchair basketball at the 2024 Paralympics
Wheelchair basketball is a particular strength of the United States. The American team has performed consistently well, with the men’s team winning numerous gold medals and the women’s team earning major Paralympic honors.
Matt Scottis a veteran of the sport and was a key player for the U.S. men’s wheelchair basketball team. His experience, strategic play, leadership skills and ability to score points make him an important figure to watch in Paris.
Para-swimming in the USA at the 2024 Paralympics
Jessica Long is one of the most accomplished para swimmers. She is experienced and has an impressive record at multiple Paralympic Games. Known for her versatility and dominance in various swimming events, Long has won numerous gold medals and set world records throughout her career. Her remarkable skills and determination make her a key figure on the USA Para Swim team and she continues to be a strong medal contender.
Who is the mascot of the Paralympics this year?
So it will still be the absolutely adorable Phryges. But this one has something unique compared to his Olympic counterpart: he proudly wears a prosthetic. Phryges with a walking blade is the first time since 1994 that a Paralympic mascot has been depicted with a visible disability. That’s so cool.
