Chanel launches necklace watch that connects to smartphone

Chanel has reportedly launched a watch that is worn as a necklace and features integrated wired headphones, a microphone and a remote control.

When connected to the user’s smartphone, Première Sound can answer calls, listen to music and control audio and video playback, Jing Daily reported on Sunday (August 25).

The launch of this watch is part of a trend that sees the integration of smart devices into consumers’ everyday lives becoming more widespread. As Payments reported in March, these devices – from smartphones to smartwatches – have transformed communication, access to information and financial transactions.

In another recent product launch in the wearables space, financial education FinTech company Greenlight announced on August 7 that it has partnered with Google to connect Greenlight’s debit card to Google’s Fitbit Ace LTE, a smartwatch designed for kids.

This combination helps children “spend money wisely” and pay with the watch at the touch of a finger, the company said in a press release.

“By working with Google to integrate Greenlight into kids’ smartwatches, we can provide families with even more security and convenience while their children become more independent,” said Tim Sheehan, co-founder and CEO of Greenlight, in the press release.

Samsung unveiled its latest wearables with artificial intelligence (AI)-based features in July, saying that the new Galaxy Ring, Galaxy Watch7 and Galaxy Watch Ultra feature the company’s Galaxy AI.

“The intelligence, guidance and insights provided by Galaxy Ring, Galaxy Watch7 and Galaxy Watch Ultra will help users transform data into meaningful insights and create a whole new era of enhanced smart health experiences,” said TM Roh, President and Head of Mobile eXperience Business at Sumsung Electronics, in a press release at the time.

This launch marked the South Korean tech giant’s first entry into the smart ring category, expanding its wearable technology offerings and strengthening its position in the health monitoring market, PYMNTS reported on July 10.

Another new addition to the wearables category comes from VTouch: The company offers a smart ring that allows users to communicate with their favorite AI assistants by simply whispering into the device.

“The availability of natural-sounding, voice-responsive AI will fundamentally change the way we work and live,” Zach Koch, CEO and co-founder of Fixie.ai, an AI company for verbal communication, told PYMNTS in April.
