If you’ve always dreamed of a European trip that involves waking up in Venice or the Alps, 2025 could be the year your travel dreams come true. As The Local’s Paul Krantz reports, night train operator European Sleeper plans to open a new route that will run from Brussels to Venice on February 5, 2025. Once it begins operations, it will be the company’s second international line.
For now at least, European Sleeper is calling this a seasonal initiative, with the annual Venice Winter Carnival listed as one of the main destinations travelers can visit. According to the company’s announcement, the service will initially run twice a week. A provisional timetable from the train operator calls for trains to leave Brussels at 5pm and arrive in Venice at 2pm the following afternoon.
“Passengers can board our train in Belgium and the Netherlands and relax in the comfortable dining car as the train takes them through Germany and Austria and over the Alps, ending the next day in the historic cities of Verona and Venice,” said Chris Engelsman, co-founder of European Sleeper. “This is a new important milestone for European Sleeper and makes overnight travel across Europe more sustainable.”
European Sleeper announced that bookings for this new line will be open on September 1. Once the first train hits the tracks, this route will be another of the growing number of rail options for travelers looking to travel to Venice – as the city itself tries to find the right balance between tourism and heritage conservation.
