Video shows OC officers shooting man accused of beheading his parents

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CA — The Orange County Sheriff’s Department released bodycam video from the moment officers opened fire on a man suspected of beheading his parents and killing their dog in their trailer in San Juan Capistrano.

Authorities found a bloody crime scene in San Juan Mobile Estates after officers responded to a domestic violence call on the morning of July 9.

The suspect’s parents, identified as 77-year-old Ronald Gerdvil and 79-year-old Antoinette Gerdvil, were found decapitated and mutilated next to their dead dog.

The suspect, 41-year-old Joseph Gerdvil, was located by officers a short time later, covered in blood and driving a golf cart he had stolen from a maintenance worker, police said.

Bodycam footage shows the suspect walking toward a police officer with his gun drawn. The officer orders him to get on the ground, but Gerdvil does not obey, the video shows.

The deputy-involved shooting occurred in response. Gerdvil was hospitalized in stable condition and has been charged with two counts of murder by the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.
