The Boys has finally taken its place as Prime Video’s number one TV show

Since the release of its fourth season in June, The Boys has been the most popular Prime Video series of all time, but has now finally been pushed out of the top spot.

What is taking its place, however, clearly shows how much Prime Video is dominated by its major competitors.

“The Rings of Power,” Amazon’s “Lord of the Rings” series, has jumped back to the top of the Prime Video TV charts in the United States.

There is no new content for the series yet, but more will be coming soon.

The second season of The Rings of Power drops August 29th and is the biggest streaming release since, well, the fourth season of The Boys.

This second season traces the rise of Sauron and the (beginning of) the creation of the Rings of Power.

“What we’re actually trying to do in Season 2 is go deeper into his mind. We want to start at a point where you understand what motivates Sauron,” says Patrick McKay, showrunner of Rings of Power.

The second season consists of eight episodes, but don’t expect a complete conclusion in this installment. A five-season story arc was originally planned, and we haven’t heard of any plans to deviate from that.

Although no concrete figures have been announced regarding the production costs of the series, it sounds like the second season may have been even more expensive than the first.

Fans can “expect it to be broader, deeper and bigger. We’re entering more worlds, more monsters, more battles,” McKay told The Hollywood Reporter.

The first season of The Rings of Power cost $465 million, not including the rights to the original material. At nearly $60 million per episode, it is one of the most expensive – if not The the most expensive television shows to date.

It is questionable whether “The Rings of Power” paid off. According to The Hollywood Reporter, only 37% of viewers in the US finished watching the series.

Nevertheless, the first season is still the most popular Prime Video show of all time.

The mega-hit Fallout on Prime Video caused a lot of excitement, with 65 million viewers at its premiere. But The Rings of Power reportedly reached 100 million viewers in its first month. But will they return for season two?

This isn’t the only new Lord of the Rings content we’re getting this year. The animated film The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim hits theaters this December and is set hundreds of years after the events of The Rings of Power.
