OTC Dental Assisting Program awards graduates 13 pins

Thirteen students in the Dental Assisting program at Ogeechee Technical College celebrated their achievements in a lively ceremony where they received their pins and were praised for their camaraderie and dedication by Program Director Yvonne Jenkins and Class Representative Sarah Reardon.

Thirteen dental assisting students at Ogeechee Technical College received their pins during an annual ceremony held at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 18, in the Joseph E. Kennedy Auditorium.

Yvonne Jenkins, dental assistant program director, welcomed the many friends and family who came to celebrate their loved ones.

“I’m always very proud of our graduates. They have to learn dental anatomy, human anatomy, oral pathology, pharmacology, nutrition, infection control and many procedures and instruments,” Jenkins said. “What makes this class unique is the way they feel connected. In my 23 years of teaching in the dental assisting program, I’ve never seen a class that worked so well together, constantly encouraged each other and really cared so much about each other.”

Sarah Reardon, president of the dental assisting class, also addressed a few words to those in attendance on behalf of the class.

“When I started this program, I naturally assumed that all of us girls would get along well. What I didn’t expect was how quickly we became a family,” Reardon said. “During the fall semester of our program, I received bad news. You girls have no idea how much of an impact you have had on such a difficult time in my life.”

The thirteen students who received their pins were:

  • Tahj English
  • Alayna Frost
  • Melanie Gonzales
  • Jalasia Gordon
  • Veronica Hernandez
  • Faith Higgins
  • Trista Koenig
  • Sarah Reardon
  • Jessica Robertson
