After the extraordinary success of Wordlewhich The New York Times Purchased in January 2022 for an undisclosed low seven-figure sum, the newspaper launched Connections in 2023.
A play on words like Wordle, Connections Soon they had built a loyal following around the world, with some players discussing tactics and sharing their results on social media.
How to play “Connections”
The rules of Connections are simple. Each day, the player is presented with 16 words that he must classify into four different categories based on common characteristics.
Each of the four categories has its own color that indicates the level of difficulty. Yellow is considered the easiest category, followed by green, blue, and then purple. Players choose four words that they think are related. If they are correct, they light up, revealing the color of the difficulty level, and are removed from the board.
However, if a player guesses incorrect word groups four times, the game is over and he is defeated. There is no time limit to the game.
The player can shuffle the board at any time, randomly rearranging the 16 words.
Accordingly Connections Editor Wyna Liu, if you have five cards that all seem to belong in the same category, your best move is probably to try to find a different category and then go back to the original category after some words have been eliminated.
She said: “This could take one of those extra cards out of the running, or at least remove some cards from the board, making other categories easier to spot.”
