While Walt Disney World Resort offers a wide variety of dark rides, few can match the uniqueness of Journey Into Imagination with Figment.

The original version of the attraction, Journey Into Imagination, opened in 1983 and quickly became a fan favorite at EPCOT. In the decades that followed, the attraction underwent two major renovations, once in 1999 and once just a few years later in 2002.

The current version of the attraction, Journey Into Imagination With Figment, is still fun but is a far cry from the original in many ways. The 2001 overhaul shortened the attraction by several minutes and added a shinier, more kid-friendly aesthetic.

The story of the attraction has also been changed. This time, the focus is more on the Imagination Institute, a fictional scientific facility dedicated to discovering the secrets of the imagination and the five senses. The attraction is run by Dr. Nigel Channing (played by Eric Idle) and takes guests on an exciting adventure through various laboratories.

Journey Into Imagination featuring Figment has become one of the most controversial parts of Walt Disney World, and many diehard fans are disappointed with the current state of the attraction.

However, the attraction has now become even more controversial after the decision was made to remove references to Figment from the attraction itself.

Figment’s footsteps have been removed from Journey Into Imagination, according to a new photo shared by Twitter/X user van_more_. The change came earlier this month and without any prior warning or announcement from Disney.

As guests exit Journey Into Imagination With Figment, small purple footprints are visible on the walls. Guests can follow these footprints all the way down the hallway until they enter ImageWorks, a play area for guests of all ages.

Although a rather small detail, these footprints helped bring the Imagination Institute and Figment to life and were originally added during a renovation in 2017. It is unknown if this decision will be temporary or permanent.

Journey Into Imagination With Figment is a popular and controversial attraction, with many fans finding its current state disappointing and lackluster and hoping for a major overhaul.

The possibility of a Figment renovation seems increasingly likely and has been rumored for years, although the attraction was conspicuously absent from Disney’s recent D23 events.

Disney hinted at an overhaul of Figment last year, but an upgrade has yet to be officially announced.
